Somalia’s education system has been in a state of ‘crisis’ since the 1980s when the decay of the education sector took a drastic form under the dictatorship leadership of Siad Barre. The situation was worsened by the civil war that broke out in the early 1990s during which buildings were destroyed and educational materials and equipment looted. This resulted in the exodus of skilled professionals followed by the destruction and disruption of the educational system. |
